What is SEED20? …an initiative of Social Venture Partners Charlotte SEED20 promotes the power of social innovation. We believe in the power of social innovation to unleash breakthrough ideas that creatively attack tough social challenges. We connect innovative people and organizations to funders, to one another, and to the broader Charlotte region. We empower nonprofits with the skills and confidence to tell their stories in ways that inspire people to act. We educate the community about pressing social issues and organizations that are dedicated to addressing them. 5

6 Goal of SEED20 Identify, highlight, and connect the community to our region’s most innovative ideas for tackling pressing social challenges. Twenty applicants will be chosen to be a part of the SEED20 Class of 2018 6

7 SEED20 OnStage April 16, 2018 All twenty participants are presented to a broad community audience Ten participants compete to win cash awards by presenting three-minute “pitches” to a panel of judges and an audience of: Business and nonprofit leaders Foundation executives Other members of the Charlotte community Presentations are followed by a showcase reception where the audience can interact with the entire SEED20 Class of 2018 to learn more! 7

What’s in it for me? Be present at required events Make the time commitment Fully engage in the process Be open to advice and coaching Help promote SEED20 Understand all that SEED20 offers Obtain 501(c)(3) status to receive any cash awards Be present at required events Make the time commitment not only to the important dates, but also to the elbow grease it will take to develop and refine your pitch Fully engage in the process to produce a crisp, engaging three-minute presentation of the mission, approach, impact, and challenges Be open to advice and coaching by business and community leaders Help promote SEED20 and the event on April 16 to your networks on social media, through , and by word of mouth Understand that a good pitch is about more than just asking for money; it’s an opportunity to share your mission and impact Obtain 501(c)(3) status to receive any cash awards ACTION ITEM: Visit SEED20.ORG and read the FAQ’s! 9

SEED20 Class of 2018 is notified December 7, 2017 Marketing Preparation Conference Call (12:00 pm) required January 18, 2018 Class of 2018 “Meet and Greet” required (evening event) January 31, 2018 Photo and video shoot required (9:00 am-3:30 pm; 2-hour window) February 8, 2018 Pitch Workshop and Orientation Session required (evening event) February 19, 2018 1st Coaching session required (evening event) March 14, 2018 2nd Coaching session required (evening event) March 28, 2018 Final Coaching session & selection round required (evening event) March 30, 2018 Finalists notified April 11, 2018 Dress Rehearsal required for finalists (evening event) April 16, 2018 SEED20 OnStage required for all participants (Arrive at 3:00 pm) 10

Applications will be judged based on the following criteria: Potential for Sustainable Impact: Does this idea/program/organization address an important social issue? Is it already having or likely to have a significant long-term impact? Innovation: Is this idea/program/organization novel, unique, and entrepreneurial? Completed applications must be submitted via the online application tool by no later than 11:59pm on Nov 1, 2017.
