Our mission is to partner with families to nurture, educate, and inspire life-long learners.

4. Knik Elementary School Vision
We envision a school where all students are motivated and inspired by their own progress, and growth is celebrated at all levels.

We believe all students want to be successful.

6. Title 1 Program
Title 1 is a federal funded program to assist our school in providing a successful education for all students. Our Federal Grant Amount is $79,725

8. Purpose of Family Engagement
Family engagement activity funds are budgeted to provide events where families, students, and school staff can engage together helping to strengthen our educational partnership.

9. Previous Year’s Progress
Outstanding Academic Achievement Scores!!
Last Spring on our MAP Tests, Knik Elementary achieved our student growth targets in each subject area for all grade levels!!
Last Spring our 3rd Graders had the highest reading fluency scores in the entire school district!!
Significantly Positive School Climate and Behavior Data!!
98% of students reported last year they feel that school staff have done a good job making school a safe place.
Among the lowest rates of office referral and suspension in the entire district.

Journeys
2nd Year of New District-Wide Reading Program Journeys
Continued Professional Development for Teachers
Overall the program features engaging stories and a multi-faceted approach to literacy instruction.
Intervention
We continue to offer intervention reading programs for students who significantly struggle with reading.

11. Curriculum and Programs -- Math
District-wide GoMath year 4
GLTs collaborate on lessons, pacing, interventions, and extensions.
New Math intervention classes this year are showing promising results. We have worked to implement Vmath and Math 180 programs that offer a blend of engaging online instruction & practice with traditional, teacher instructed small group intervention.

12. Curriculum and Programs – Math Continued
Math Maniacs Incentive Program in 3rd grade
Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP Prep) math extension program four mornings/wk.
Math homework club for targeted students 3rd, 4th and 5th grades
Grade level teams set goals and create action plans in the fall and winter for addressing student needs in math & Reading.
ALEKS, Moby Math
Each grade level supplements the GoMath program with a fact fluency component (i.e. Rocket Math, Susan C. Anthony).

Grade-level literacy and math block, emphasize instructional time.

16. Academic Assessment & Student Progress
MAP Tests three times per year in Reading, Language Usage, and Mathematics for all Knik Students. We believe in a growth mindset and we expect all students to show one year of academic growth in each subject area on MAP Tests.
AIMSweb Reading Fluency Test three times per year for 3rd Grade. All 3rd graders are expected to read 119 words per minute by the end of the year.
NEW!! – PEAKS Assessments once each spring assess students on their grade level Alaska State Standards. As this is the first year with PEAKS, we are still working on how to communicate performance expectations.

17. Reporting Student Progress
Standard Aligned Report Cards – Four times per year at the end of each quarter.
MAP & AIMSweb Scores – Three times per year at October Parent Teacher Conferences, February Parent Teachers Conferences, and at the end of the year with the last report card.
PEAKS Scores – Once per year at the start of the school year, reporting the previous year scores following 3-10 grades.
