2. Flashing lights- Build tension and causes the viewer to panic as its unclear what made them turn off.
Long Shot- establishes a setting, and highlights how isolated the character is.
Tunnel- Emphasises the distance to safety and shows there are no other exits, causes tension
Plastic and plain environment- indicates an industrial setting

3. Gives a shock to the viewer as we expect the monster to come from the front rather than on top.
Close up- allows us to see the characters emotions.
Can see sweat and panic, therefore its clear to see that the character is scared.
Upside down shot suggests disorientation

4. Establishes an 80s setting, Use of old fashioned wall paper
80s hairstyle, gives us an idea about the time period.
Eerie setting outside, mist =, foreshadows what's to come.
Mid shot- Introduces each of the characters, and allows us to see their distinct personalities

5. Close up – Helps the viewer to identify each boy.
Important as the first scene of the boys as it means viewers can know the characters and therefore understand the plot line.
Close up shot flips between each of the characters quickly to create a fast paced conversation, suggests the boys are comfortable with each other.

6. Foreshadows the monster to come, dramatic irony for the viewer as they already know there is a monster outside.
The fact that they are playing with toys rather than gadgets reinforces the 80s setting
Close up shot, allows us to see the monster clearly, could give us insight into what it looks like.

7. Long shot- Shows us a dark, wooded, isolated setting , which connotes danger especially as we know there is something wrong from the first shots.

9. Deserted tyre, makes the viewer fear for the worse
Isolated location of a forest increases anxiety in the viewer s they can associate children alone in the forest with danger.
Diegetic sound of tyre moving, creates tension and is a contrast to the stillness.

10. High angle shot, makes the monster appear dominant compared to will .
Facial expressions show that Will is frightened and the high angle shot also emphasises Wills vulnerability.

11. Over the shoulder shot- allows us to see the situation from Dustin's point of view.
Mise en scene- Floral wallpaper, old style bed frame and curtains creates an 80s setting.
Reinforces the characters personalities, Dustin is the mockery of the group and Nancy is presented as a more stereotypical teenage girl.
Humour created as we see Dustin hopelessly trying to impress Nancy

Equilibrium- She starts of relatively poor and living a normal life.
Disruption- She becomes a Chalet Girl, Trains to become a snowboarder, starts to fall in love and sends money back to her Dad.
Recognition- The fiancé comes back and the romance is stopped, she falls off her snowboard, keeps snowing so she cant practise, she forgets to send some money back.
Repair- Jonny breaks off the engagement and she wins the snowboarding competition and wins loads of money so is no longer poor.
Restoration- She lives a new life as a snowboarder with Jonny.
