7 Quick tip A noun always follows the words a, an, or the.
However, a noun does not have to follow “a,” “an,” or “the.” A noun can easily appear without any of those word before it. Also, the noun does not have to be the first word after “a,” “an,” or “the.” Other words may be between “a,” “an,” or “the” and the noun.

Cake is delicious. My grandfather is a great person. The new park was built in California.

While watching the news, Stacey heard the weatherman say to pack an umbrella. Katie moved to California with her family. The lightning from the storm scared my dog. My mom went on a walk around the neighborhood.
