2 Definition of Blended Learning
Blended learning: is any time a student learns at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home and at least in part through online delivery with some element of student control over time, place, path and/or place.3 3 Staker, Heather. et. al. (2011). The Rise of K-12 Blended Learning: Profiles of Emerging Models. Innosight Institute.

3 Blended Learning Definition II

4 Background How to engage 4th quarter seniors?
The give and take of 4th quarter seniors. How to prepare seniors for the independence / responsibility asked of them post-high school? How to leverage students’ technology?

5 The Experiment Spring of 2013
Starting post-April break, students met in class for three of their six days and worked outside of class for the other three of their six days. Most successful part was time to meet with students. Cognizant of my own free time vs. my responsibilities.

6 The Implementation In SY , I scrapped the 3-on, 3-off approach and instituted an à la carte method. We would ‘go blended’ around major papers, projects, tests, etc. Students would be required to and graded on the following: Scheduling an appointment with me during class. Preparing work for that appointment and ing it to me by 8.00 the night before (so I can have it read by the meeting). Keeping that appointment. Completing ‘classwork’ outside of class to make up for the blended classes missed.

9 Why I (Continue To) Do It
Working one on one with students who normally wouldn’t seek me out. Responsibility and Independence. No loss to content, coverage, or work.
