Bandwidth Allocation and Reservation Anand Patil, DANTE
EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16th June 2004 Bandwidth Allocation and Reservation Anand Patil, DANTE EGEE is a project funded by the European Union under contract IST
2
Contents Progress on tasks Bandwidth allocation architecture for EGEE
2.1.1 Analysis of existing interfaces 2.1.2 Survey of software available Bandwidth allocation architecture for EGEE EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
3
T2.1.1 Analysis of existing interfaces
T2.1.2 Survey of available software EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June

List of software (1) A list of software has been agreed upon and work has been allocated to each party Grid Resource Scheduing (GRS) Andrea, UCL Globus Architecture for Reservation and Allocation (GARA) User Controlled Light Paths (UCLP - Canarie) Tool to provide end user control on a optical VPN Funded and driven by Canarie, the Canadian NREN Four implemenations have been developed Maarten/Anand, DANTE EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
5
List of software (2) Dante Premium IP tool Qbone Aquila
Tool developed in-house by Dante to manage Premium IP reservations Maarten/Anand, DANTE Qbone Internet 2 bandwidth broker and interdomain signaling (SIBBS) Aquila Interdomain reservation system developed by European project Aquila Benjamin, CNRS Lower priority to look at: AAA work from the University of Amsterdam KUBB (Kansas University Bandwidth Broker) EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
6
Criteria for Analysis Criteria for the analysis of the selected software has been agreed upon Document outline has been created Template has been made to structure the analysis of each software package and its associated interfaces Improves readability of the document Easier to compare different software packages and interfaces This is available on EDMS EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
7
Current Status Study of software and interfaces has started
Draft texts have been written and circulated Individual contributions to be submitted by the end of June All text will be merged into the final document Some editing work on the final document Deliverable to be ready for review by the second half of July Need to identify internal and external reviewers EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
8
Architecture for bandwidth allocation
and reservation EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
9
Bandwidth Allocation Architecture
Initial team for defining architecture identified Draft architecture diagrams circulated Preliminary discussions on the EGEE bandwidth allocation architecture Administrative control Development responsibility Identified overlap with GN2-SA3 Need to cooperate with GN2-SA3 team EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
10
Cooperation with GN2-SA3
Overlap in the objectives of the two activities Face to face meeting held at Dante office (6th May 2004) Cooperation between EGEE-JRA4 and GN2-SA3 Discussion on a boundary between EGEE-JRA4 and GN2-SA3 GN2-SA3 has non-grid clients Avoid duplication of effort Reduce dependency on each other Software to follow Web Services architecture Cooperation with GGF-GHPN With input from some discussions a draft version of the architecture and interfaces document has been created Available at: EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June

Functional Elements Grid Middleware Network Resource Broker (NRB)
Interdomain pathfinding Concatenating resources Network Resource Manager (NRM) Intradomain pathfinding (ingress-egress) Admission control (are the requested resources available?) Enforcement of domain policies (e.g. setup priority) Network Device Router Optical cross-connects (OXC) EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
13
Interfaces Grid Middleware to Network Resource Broker
Network Resource Broker to Network Resource Manager Network Resource Manager to Network Resource Manager TBD: do we need this interface? Network Resource Manager to Network Device Manual configuration by the NOC Automatic configuration in the network EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
14
Summary Software to be studied identified and allocated
Evaluation criteria defined and template created Timelines have been slightly adjusted but on schedule Architecture team identified and discussions started Co-operation with GN2-SA3 Work on draft architecture document started Two new subtasks starting 2.1.3 Requirements and Use Cases 2.1.4 Interface with Global Resource Manager EGEE JRA4 meeting, CERN, 16 June
