2 The laws- smoke free information
The NZ smoke free environment act (2003) aims to: Protect all workers and the public from second- hand smoke Reduce the harm caused to individuals by their smoking Further restrict minors’ ( under 18) access to smoking products and prevent negative influences on young people Further promote a smokefree (auahi kore) lifestyle as the norm

3 The main provisions of the act include:
Workplaces- all indoor work places 100% smoke free Hospitality venues are required to be 100% smokefree (bars, clubs, restaurants) if they are work places, serve alcohol or have a gambling licence Schools 100% smoke free indoor and out 24/7 The benefits of 100% smoke free indoor work places: Answering public demand ( 90% support including 83% of smokers). The right for worker to have a healthy work environment. Better business- more non smokers eating and drinking out, reduced staff sickness Cleaner air, smoke free provisions leading to less people smoking, saving health care costs, economic costs and emotional costs of premature death

7 Sally is 16 she is at a party where people around her are smoking
Sally is 16 she is at a party where people around her are smoking. She really likes Ben (aged 18), and Ben keeps offering her cigarettes. Sally has never smoked before as she knows it bad for her, but is now considering it as she wants to fit in and wants Ben to like her. Using the scenario above, explain one personal, interpersonal and societal factor that might influence Sally’s decision to smoke or not to smoke. Personal Interpersonal Societal

8 Using the scenario above, explain one personal, interpersonal and societal factor that might influence Sally’s decision to smoke or not to smoke. Personal- Sally might be curious to see why so many people at the party like smoking, she might feel as though she’s missing out, so she may smoke so then she knows. Interpersonal- Ben is pressuring Sally to smoke, if Sally isn’t a strong person she may give in and start smoking to and try impress Ben. Societal- Sally isn’t old enough to buy cigarettes by New Zealand law. By being 16 she legally can’t smoke cigarettes. If Sally stays true to herself she wont smoke as she knows it illegal. Answers
