2 Diocletian’s Palace Diocletian Palace is one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world. It was built as a combination of a luxury villa and a Roman camp  between the late 3rd and the early 4th century.  

3 When you mention the word Palace in Split, everyone thinks about the Diocletian's Palace.
It's the main city landmark, and actually the city itself, the only heritage site in the world that is still inhabited.

4 Through rich and turbulent history of Split, many noble families built their residences here so today, the area within the walls of the Palace contains Romanesque churches, medieval fortifications, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque palaces.

5 Here are some of the most remarkable palaces that are still in use ...

6 The Little Papalic palace
Its terrestrial parts date from the 13th century and it was rebuilt again in the 15 century in the late Gothic style. .

7 The Big Papalic palace Large Papalic Palace was built during the 15th and 16th centuries and certainly is one of the most beautiful late Gothic buildings of that era

8 The Cindro palace This is one of the finest examples of baroque residential architecture in Split. On the ground floor of the palace there is a spacious atrium and facade breaks down a series of windows and balconies with baroque stone fence.

9 The Grisogono palace In this palace we can track down the layers of construction starting from late antiquity belonging to Diocletian's palace, but all over the Romanesque, late Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque..

It is a late-Romanesque structure built by aristocrats from the island of Korcula in the late 14th century. On the front there is a statue of St. Anthony .
