9. HISTORY OF STOMA NURSES
1958 – Norma Gill, (ileostomate) Highlighted the lack of support available
1961 – She set up the first training programme for professionals
1969 – In Uk the First stoma clinic was set up by Barbara Saunders at St Bartholomew's hospital
She became the First stoma care nurse

Stoma nurses have Bsc and working towards Msc in nursing
The team has presented at a National Stoma Care Conference
We have a Nurse Prescriber within stoma care
We are actively involve with the community and hold patient events.
