Defines the principles behind the Service Policies for development, progression and advancement of employees Draws together the key issues and intentions Initial point of reference Directs supporting policies

5 Policy Statements The primary role of South Wales Fire and Rescue Service is to reduce risk to our communities by raising awareness and providing a first class emergency service To achieve this we need the best people, properly trained and operating in a supportive environment

6 Policy Statements The Service values its employees and seeks to allow everyone to reach their full potential The Service fully supports the principles of the Integrated Personal Development System (IPDS) for recruitment, selection and advancement of all employees

7 Policy Statements The Service expects candidates for recruitment or promotion to be able to demonstrate the personal qualities and attributes (PQAs) that align with the Service’s organisational values and assessment of these PQAs form a part of any process

8 Policy Statements It is recognised there is always the need to balance the needs of service delivery against the aspirations of the individual for recognition, progression and personal development There are times when this balance may cause conflict but all decisions on workforce development and progression will be based on objective, transparent and fair criteria
