2 Tell the class we are going to spend some time identifying the Role Models in our life.

3 What makes a good Role Model?
Role models are powerful tools for finding our own success in life. Role models can be defined differently for each person. Role models can be defined as a person that has survived situations you are struggling with. Share the following definitions and characteristics of a good Role Model with the class. Role models are powerful tools for finding our own success in life. Role models can be defined differently for each person. Role models can be defined as a person that has survived situations you are struggling with. They can also be chosen because of their overall view of life and its significance. Sometimes role models are identified because of a shared interest. Finding someone with a strong character and positive values to share can create a bond that can truly impact your life. Discovering someone with these types of qualities can have a huge effect on your outlook and your actions.

5 My Role Model Teacher shares one of their Positive Role Models (Current or Past) and tell how this person influenced their life directly or indirectly. What ideas or “life lesson” did you learn from this person? Talk with students about who were your role models. Share how they influenced your life and your desire for education beyond high school. You may even want to share a picture of this person.

6 Who is YOUR Role Model? Give students a few moments to think about who are their role models are. Encourage students to think about and talk about the characteristics that make someone a positive role model. Can be from the past or present.

7 What things made you think of this particular person?
Collect some ideas from the class using the above prompt. Then reveal the “wordle” above to re-emphasize the positive aspects of a good Role Model.

8 Role Model Appreciation Letter
Write a letter of appreciation to your chosen Role Model. Explain what is it about them that makes them your role model? Personality? Achievements? Occupational Interest? Values? Other Reasons? Thank you for being thoughtful and taking this seriously. Your Role Model will be THRILLED to receive this from you. Hand out the stationary provided with OBJH letterhead. Give students time to write their letters. When they are finished, encourage them to give these letters to their Role Model. If it is a celebrity, assist them in finding a fan club address. You will probably want to read the letters before they go out…
