1 How to Configure a Huawei OLT

2 Are you confused on configuring a Huawei OLT
Are you confused on configuring a Huawei OLT? Six steps to solve it, so simple! The Optical Line Terminal (OLT) is an aggregation device located at the Central Office (CO) for terminating the PON protocol. Optical Network Units (ONUs)/Optical Network Terminal (ONTs) are located on the user side, providing various types of ports to connect user terminals. The OLT and ONUs are connected through a passive ODN for communication. The Optical Distribution Network (ODN) is composed of passive optical components (POS) such as optical fibers, and one or more passive optical splitters. The ODN provides optical channels between the OLT and ONUs. It interconnects the OLT and ONUs and is highly reliable. The ODN is passive, which means that no optical amplifier or regenerator will be deployed on the ODN, reducing the maintenance costs of outdoor devices.

3 Step 1: Choose OLT model, multi service or just OLT
Step 1: Choose OLT model, multi service or just OLT? Big capacity or smaller? MA5683T and MA5680T are best sellers among all Huawei OLTs due to competitive price; Step 2: Choose Main Control Board, although recently, most customers choose SCUN as main control board, dual main control board is quite common; Step 3: Choose Uplink Board, GE or 10G as uplink, Huanetwork will provide free multimode optical transceiver for the uplink board if they are optical based, also customers may consider dual uplink boards design to improve reliability; Step 4: Choose Power Board, for Huawei MA5600T/ Huawei MA5680T/ Huawei MA5603T/ Huawei MA5683T, there is only DC power board and dual power board is quite common, as many customers don’t have -48V DC power, in that case a telecom level AC to DC converter will be required, which is also available from Huanetwork, if it is MA5608T, then customers can choose either AC or DC

4 Note: Our supplier can provide the FTTx solution according to your demands, and now in our Huanetwork Lab, we have below products ready for test: Huawei OLT Optical Line Terminal MA5600T Series Huawei MDU Multiple Dwelling Unit MA5620 Huawei ONT Optical Network Terminal HG8245A, HG8245, HG8010H Huawei DSLAM MA5616 Huanetwork design the network solution free for you, the more information about Huanetwork lab, please visit:

5 Step 5: Choose GPON Board, calculate how many GPON subscribers will be connected. Generally, Huawei OLT supports 1:128 splitting ratio, but 1:64 or even less splitting ratio actually have been used by most customers. How many GPON Boards are needed to connect the number of subscribers: for GPBD (each GPBD Board can provide 8 GPON port), the quantity of subscribers dividing by 64*8, then you can get the quantity of GPBD boards; while for GPFB (each GPFD Board can provide 16 GPON port), the quantity of subscribers dividing 64*16, then you get the quantity of GPFD boards. Step 6: Huanetwork offers free B+ SFP Module with the GPON Board, but many customers still wish to have better SFP module to transmit longer distance with less loss, so customers can choose to upgrade their GPON SFP module from B+ to C+, note Huanetwork will charge for that.
