1 1.3 Midpoint and Distance

2 Midpoint The midpoint is the point on a segment that divides the segment into two equal parts

3 How do I find the midpoint?
All you do is average the numbers! The midpoint of 4 and 6 is 5 right? Just the average.

4 So how do I find the midpoint of (3,3) and (4,5)
If it is an ordered pair, nothing changes. Average the X values and the Y values The X values are 3 and 4. the average is 3.5 The Y values are 5 and 3 the average is 4 The midpoint is at (3.5,4)

5 Midpoint formula

6 Segment Bisector This is a point, line, ray, or plane that bisects a segment Bisect means to cut in 2 equal parts

7 Given a midpoint and end point find the other endpoint
To find the other endpoint or X Double the midpoint, subtract the endpoint you know 2-8 = -6 The other endpoint is at -6

8 What grade do I need? In my history class the teacher only takes 2 grades. They are averaged to give me my final grade. I make an 87 on the first test. What grade do I need on the second test to have a 90 average? Can you think of another process to get your answer ?
