Provides early college opportunities for students to try who normally would not attend college.
Students have flexible scheduling opportunities because courses can be taken anytime. 
Saves money because college tuition and expenses are fully or mostly paid

4. Disadvantages
Scheduling can be difficult if the student is involved in extra curricular activities
Courses may or may not transfer to the college
Colleges may prefer AP courses over dual enrollment courses
Transportation must be provided by the student/parent

5. Who is eligible? Be a high school student (mostly 11th and 12th)
Be enrolled in an eligible university or technical college
Meet college’s admission requirements
Qualifying GPA in core curriculum
Qualiying entrance exam scores
Misc requirements
Meet local system requirements.
Be on track to graduate and maintain satisfactory academic progress towards meeting high school graduation requirements.

6. About MOWR Cost: Interested students should
GA Student Finance Commission (GSFC) pays for up to 15 hours/semester
Hours do not count against HOPE the cap

8. Application Process
STEP 1: Take the SAT by March or the ACT by April or the COMPASS by April (be sure to send scores to the college)
STEP 2: Set up a parent and student meeting with Ms. Hamby to complete the MOWR Student Participation Agreement Form and to discuss scheduling specifics (March/April)
STEP 3: Apply to the college (preferably by the end of March)
Be sure to use the correct SSN and apply as a MOWR student (If MOWR is not an option, choose Joint Enrollment)

10. If accepted to MOWR program:
STEP 4: Set up meeting with College Admissions Advisor to discuss paperwork and register for class.
If schedule questions, Ms. Hamby to see when BHS courses are offered. (beginning to mid-July)
STEP 5: Complete the online MOWR Application to apply for the payment of the program
Must be completed EVERY SEMESTER

11. Courses
Students are required to take classes on the Approved dual course list from GADOE:
Full Time College Status vs Part Time College Status
Part time status is a minimum of 6 classes between BHS & college.
Full time status is a minimum of 12 course hours and a maximum of 15 hours all taken on the college campus.
A 3 hr college course (1 sem) = 1 BHS (2 sem)
ex: student is required to take only 1 sem of English at the college to equal 2 sem of BHS.
Local districts have flexibility on additional requirements For the honor of Val/Sal, students must take a minimum of 2 academic core courses (English, Math, Sci, SS) and 3 total classes each semester. In addition, 2 AP courses.

12. It is best for students who are part time to take an even number of courses at the college. Examples:
English and Math
Government and Economics
Science and Elective
It is not recommended to take a course that is a prerequisite for another course. Examples:
Spanish I,
US History

14. Grading Colleges use letter grades A=95 B=85 C=75 D=70
If a course requires an EOC, the student is required to take the exam.
EOC not required for Am Lit, US History, Economics, Phys Sci
The exam grade will be calculated as 20% of the grade as listed above.
Weighted GPA
+10 points is added to dual credit courses for calculating academic weighted percent and HOPE GPA
Duplicated high school credits if allowed will transfer to the high school as elective credit (ie: Biology, US History) and these courses do NOT earn +10 points.

At BHS, we believe that students earn privileges for achieving high standards.
A privilege period is “a period of the school day” when a student is not assigned a class (a free period)
Parental permission is required for a student to participate in the program. (form is available in the guidance office)
A privilege period is not considered one of the 6 required courses for students enrolled in the MOWR program b/c it is considered a “free” period.
Privilege period(s) are awarded to students who meet the requirements set forth by the faculty/staff of BHS.
