Habits: Good and Bad The NT speaks of “customs” (Gr. ἔθος) = a habit, ritual, routine, formed by repetition; a way of life; not an isolated act “Habits are hard to break” applies to both good and bad habits We spend a lot of time trying to instill habits in our children: hygiene, education, manners, etc.

The Habit of Bible Reading
Joshua made this a habit (Josh. 1:8) The psalmist made this a habit (Psa. 1:1-2) Timothy made this a habit (1 Tim. 4:13, 15) We get truth to guide us

The Habit of Prayer Daniel made this a habit (Dan. 6:10)
Jesus taught this habit (Lk. 18:1-8) Cornelius had this habit (Acts 10:1-2) We get answers and help to aid us

The Habit of Worship Jesus made this a habit (Lk. 2:42; 4:16)
NT Christians made this a habit (Acts 2:42) Some have abandoned this habit (Heb. 10:24-25; 13:15) We get stirring up and strength to support us

The Habit of Good Works Dorcas made this a habit (Acts 9:36)
Jesus made this a habit (Acts 10:38) Paul taught this habit (Rom. 2:7, 10; 1 Cor. 15:58; Gal. 6:10; 1 Tim. 5:10-11; Tit. 3:1, 8, 14) We get a reward for our hard work

Good Habits Are Hard to Break
Start as early in life as possible (Prov. 22:6) Avoid empty repetitions (Mt. 6:7) Make it personal (2 Chron. 24:1-2, 17-18) Avoid evil associations (1 Cor. 15:33) Change at anytime (1 Tim. 1:13-16)
