NAME: Ms. Stowe Classroom: D234 Welcome to 8th Grade Math Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them Reason abstractly and quantitatively Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning Use appropriate tools strategically Attend to precision Look for and make use of structure Model with mathematics Objectives: Course DAILY ROUTINE Come into class and be seated before the bell rings On your desk have homework ready to be checked and start warm-up Review any questions from previous nights homework Intro to new material Practice of new material Start homework/Review new material Grading Breakdown 60% Major grades 40% Minor grades WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED Reteach/Reassess • Students who score below 70 on a major grade assessment shall be provided one reteach opportunity and one reassess opportunity. Reteach/Reassess (for grading purposes) beyond the one opportunity is not permitted. • Reteach/Reassess is NOT provided for semester exams. • The maximum grade assigned after any reassessment is 70%. • Reteach/Reassess must occur within one (1) week after the student has received the failing grade on the major assessment. Check with other students to see what you’ve missed Absent on the test day: Make an appointment to make up the missed test ASAP If you miss the day BEFORE the test or quiz (review day), then you are expected to take the test or quiz on the date that it was scheduled. Class Rules: The classroom is a place for teaching and learning to take place. Learning is a two way street Being Late: Please be respectful and make it on time. Talking during class: When I’m explaining new concepts, going over homework problems, or answering questions I expect everyone to listen. You should also respect your classmates. Inappropriate language: find a better way to express yourself. Bring your stuff: notebook, pencil…. Label your work: according to project, homework, classwork, CHEATING POLICY There is NO tolerance with cheating. The student will automatically receive a zero for the assignment.
