4 Purpose General lighting – background or ambient lighting. Produces enough light to see everything in the room Task lighting – focuses light on an area where it is most needed for a specific task Accent lighting – create a dramatic effect 9/13/2018

5 Sources of light Natural light – sunlight through windows or doors
Artificial light – lamps & light fixtures Incandescent - warm & flattering Fluorescent – produce more light; last longer; blueish cast Halogen – more efficient; whiter & more intense light; become very hot Fiber optics – rope lighting; use for displays LED’s – Light emitting diode; lasts 10 times as long as fluorescent bulbs 9/13/2018
