2 Schedule Core K-9 Lunch Elective or PE

3 CORES Language Arts- All students receive the same content. There is no “advanced” English/ Language Arts curriculum in middle school.  Differentiation occurs in the general education classroom by the content area teacher.  Students who are identified as Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) in Reading are cluster grouped in classes per the WCPSS and Holly Grove Middle School AIG Plans. Math- There are several math classes: Math 6, Math 6+, and Compacted 6+/7+. Your child’s teacher will follow the WCPSS criteria for recommending the appropriate class for your child.

4 Science-Investigation and inquiry methods of learning on topics such as soil, sound and light waves, plants, ecosystems focusing on hands-on experiments. Social Studies-Studying societies and geography from every continent-Romans and Greeks, Japan, the Middle East to learn of political, economic, and social systems.

5 Healthful Living Three week rotations-Stay with
the same teacher all year long. Health Topics-nutrition, drug and alcohol education, interpersonal skills Physical Education-Sports such as flag football, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, lacrosse, hockey; Fitness

6 Selecting Electives BEGINNING BAND Year-Long Class
Emphasis is on the acquisition of basic musical skills as students learn to play a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument. Band classes prepare several concert compositions that are performed for an audience. Students should anticipate some after-school practices and evening performances.

7 Keyboarding and Basic Word Processing
Was called Computer Skills and Applications 1 Learn the touch method of keyboarding Basic digital literacy and computer knowledge Basic word processing Document formatting skills..

8 Exploring Interpersonal Relationships-Childcare
Was called Exploring FACS-Family Focus Topics covered are: Interpersonal relationships. Nutrition and wellness. Early child care and education. Interior design. Students are eligible to receive the American Red Cross® Babysitter certification.

9 Project Revive Was known as Exploring Engineering and Design 1
Hands-on projects Students focus on understanding how criteria, constraints, and processes affect designs. Emphasis is placed on brainstorming, visualizing, modeling, testing, and refining designs. Students develop skills in researching information, communicating design information, and reporting results. Activities are structured to integrate physical and social sciences, mathematics, English language arts, and art.

10 Nine Week Classes INTRODUCTORY LANGUAGE (SPANISH) MUSIC EXPLORATORY
This course is an introduction to Spanish language and culture. This course is intended as a link between the elementary Spanish programs or as an initial introduction to the language. This course is not included in the Spanish curriculum series for high school credit. In some situations this course is included on a “wheel” scheduling option. MUSIC EXPLORATORY Students are introduced to the skills necessary for singing and playing music with accuracy and expression while interpreting the sound and symbols of music. Through the study of various genres and cultures students will analyze, evaluate and understand the music and concepts from other areas.

11 More Nine-Week Classes
VISUAL ARTS EXPLORATORY This course introduces students to the elements of art through a variety of media that may include: drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, pottery, and weaving. Application of these elements to the students’ own original art work is the major emphasis while being introduced to art history and critical analysis of master work as well as their own. INTRODUCTION TO DANCE This course introduces creative movement, improvisation, and choreography through basic modern dance techniques

12 Registration Student will follow the directive of their elementary counselor. We have the options for each track updated with new names for you to pick up. Additional options for Track 2. Window is open for registration. Thank you so much for your patience!

14 We are excited you are a future Bulldog!
Counselors will be visiting the elementary schools in the near future. Students and parents will be able to pick up the schedules for on a date to be determined. At that time you may purchase PE uniforms, “walk” your schedule, put money in your lunch account and put a face to your teachers’ name. If you are unable to attend, that’s okay. However, we will not be handing out schedules early.
