Content (it) Stephens Kings ”IT” is a 2017 remake horror of a film based in 1986 recently released in 2017 and directed by Andrés Muschietti. The film includes a clown named “pennywise the dancing clown” who is a evil supernatural character that can morph into the fears of the children he wants to kill. Furthermore, the figure in front of the kid with the yellow jacket (pennywise the dancing clown) seems to be leading him to a trap which gives us a better sense of what the movie is about, the figure leads kids into traps by manipulating them and using their fears against them to kill the kids.

Content (scarface) SCARFACE is a vintage action film released in 30 March 1984 and it is directed by Brian De Palma. The film based in the 1980s and is about a guy getting a green card in exchange for assassinating a Cuban government official, Tony Montana (Al Pacino) stakes a claim on the drug trade in Miami. Viciously murdering anyone who stands in his way.

Typography (it) The font used for the title “IT” gives a sense of death as it looks like it has been finger painted with blood which makes us believe that there is a killer in this movie. There is a quite freaky slogan on the poster saying “you’ll float too.”, the full stop makes it sound blanc and simple meaning it’s the end. When I think of “float” it gives me an image of death for example, when fish die, they float in the water and also balloons float so its almost like Pennywise hands out death to the children. The other sub titles such as the release date of the movie written on the poster “September 8” seems like it echo's from the slogan “you’ll float too” sicne the font gets smaller as it goes down.

Typography (scarface)
The font used in the film title “Scarface” is stretched out vertically and is modern, along with the colour red. This is to show that Scarface is a man in the modern times (at that time) who is a killer since red symbolizes blood. The slogan “SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND…” contrasts with the rest of the colours on the poster giving it a eye catching effect. Also the picture goes with the slogan as it seems like the gun is the little friend and hes about to do something crazy like kill a bunch of people. Lastly, the three dots after the slogan “say hello to my little friend…” give a sense of mystery as we don’t know what happens next but we can guess.

Comparing 20th century and 21st century posters

20th century and 21st century posters
Posters in the 20th century are very different compared to nowadays ones (21st century) for example, colours are less brighter and vibrant now, HD images are used for backgrounds/real life images rather than paintings or added effects. Nowadays movie posters have more detail and meaning to it such as THE MECHANIC RESURRECTION, you can tell the man hanging is aiming for something and has a mission since he looks very prepared and is looking directly at something/someone along with the camera having an interesting angle which gives a great effect to the image. THE TERMINATOR is just a simple portrait of a cool looking guy with a gun so it doesn’t really have a meaning. Furthermore, there are less promotions of companies now, usually in the posters you have company names written, before in the 20th century they gave many promotions and used quite a large font but now in the 21st century they promote less and have smaller fonts because they are not as important as the main goal of attracting target audiences. Fonts used in the 20th century had more effects to them such as metallic looking titles or twisted etc. Now they are not as detailed but provide a more simple and better effect due to advance in technology such as the use of transparency, layers , visual effects, CGI etc.
