8 Certification Courses

9 ESL-ONLY Certification Course
Teachers should begin to plan to take the spring course. Reading teachers who teach ELs must be ESL certified. Region XI will give priority to ELA teachers without ESL certification. Reading teachers must be ESL certified, serving EL students, and complete 6hrs. of ESL sanctioned PL’s in order to apply for the ESL stipend. ESL certifications must be current. We have numerous first year teachers who need this certification

10 DL Certification Course
DL Teachers who need to complete their bilingual or ESL certification should take the BTLPT at Texas A&M and ESL spring courses at Region XI. All teachers who teach ELs must be bilingual or ESL certified. ESL teachers without certification will receive special consideration at Region XI. DL teachers must be bilingual or ESL certified and serve EL students in order to apply for their Bilingual or ESL stipend. Bilingual or ESL certification must be current.

15 Dictionary Reminder LPACs order dictionaries.
Orders for ESL-ONLY are separate from DL orders. Our dictionaries are for EL students daily instruction. If the Spanish-English dictionaries are used on a daily basis, then they may be used for STAAR. We cannot buy dictionaries for testing with Title III money

Decision-Making Time Designated Supports available for students who meet eligibility (some new ones) and some that require TEA approval Parent Denials: those students are not eligible to receive designated supports or special provisions LPAC Guide Make assessment decisions on an individual basis and ensure routine use More information available at TEA 2017 STAAR supports

21 TELPAS NEWS New Tutorials will be released in January 2018
Listening Items – the text/prompt isn’t available on the screen – click on correct answer, drop and drag, and multiple choice Speaking Items – Text for prompt is onscreen to read and in an audio file. Students may record up to 2 responses each with a 90-second duration. Speaking is scored with a 2 or 4 point rubric depending on the item type and complexity. Clusters differ for Reading vs. Listening and Speaking Delayed TELPAS Results and LPAC implications

23 CAD Please review the CAD with your campus rosters.
New teachers? Add names to the CAD. New assignments? Add changes to the CAD. Teacher no longer on your campus? Put a line through their name, add a note as to why. No changes, sign and “NOTE: no changes.” Return the CAD and Staff Roster to the DL Specialist.

DLE Summer Conference=2 Forms, one for each day attended. Conference on the Education of Hispanics=1 Form for the day. NABE= 1 Form for each day attended. TABE= 1 Form for each day attended. BEAM= 1 Form for the day. Fall DL PLs including DLE Techno= 1 Form for each session attended. Social Studies Super Saturday= 1 Form for the day. July & Fall DLIT for new teachers to DL= 1 Form for the 3 days attended. Fall DLIT for new teachers to DL= 1 Form for the four days attended.
