Teenagers´ perception and doubts about sexuality

INTRODUCTION
RESULTS
Three hundred twelve students were interviewed. Fifty percent of them would like to receive information about sexuality by parents, 39% by professors, and 10.4% by friends. Forty-seven percent of adolescents chose lectures to receive such information, while 24. 6% chose folders, 20.4% chose classes, and 7.1% chose the media. They have doubts on sexually transmitted infections (ISTs), menstrual cycle, contraception, sexual violence, abortion, the risk of becoming pregnant, sex during pregnancy, and sexual orientation.
According to the World Health Organization, sexuality is “a central aspect of being human throughout life that encompasses sex, gender identities, and roles, sexual orientation, eroticism, pleasure, intimacy, and reproduction”. Sexuality is the energy that motivates the pursuit of love, contact and intimacy, and sex. This dimension is especially emphasized in adolescence. There are doubts of adolescents about their sexuality that are not always explained by health professional and could be explained by professor in schools
CONCLUSION
OBJECTIVE
Adolescence period constitutes a window of opportunity for health professionals to provide information about sexual issues. The knowledge on the demands of adolescents about sexuality may allow the development of more coherent prevention programs targeting adolescent’s needs and prevention of adolescent health problems. This may contribute to the effectiveness of these programs. There were numerous doubts about the importance of sex education in schools in partnership with the support of parents to transmit information, knowledge, and values to help students overcome their doubts, anxieties, and needs.
To verify what information about sexuality teens would like to receive
METHODS
Students from a public high school aged years old were asked to answer three questions. Two of them were multiple choice questions i) what is the best person to give you information about sexuality? what is the best way to get this information?. They were also answered requested to answer an open question: What doubts would you like to clarify about sexuality?
