STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES

2 LEARNING OBJECTIVES Participants develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) This module (IMPLEMENT) is about putting the elements of the plan into practice, from simulation to training to the purchasing contingency stock. This will obviously vary according to the resources available to the NS and the imminence of the hazard. This particular session is devoted to developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to further support the contingency plan. By the end of this session, participants are expected to know who the plan should be communicated to and coordinated with. You would have developed a list of preparedness activities and SOP/s that will support implementation of the Contingency Plan. If you are conducting an actual SOP drafting exercise you will set the production of draft SOPs as the expected output. We will start with communicating and coordinating the plan.

3 STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES I
Link contingency plan and operational Response Ensures tasks listed in contingency plan are carried out quickly and according to pre-agreed criteria SOPs must be simple (in checklist format) SOPs aim to ensure that certain tasks are carried out in a specific way by key people or departments. They form the link between the Contingency Plan and the actual operational response. SOPs ensure that tasks specified in the Contingency Plan are carried out quickly and according to pre-agreed criteria. SOPs must be simple and easy to understand (preferably in checklist format). They must be able to stand on their own, clearly indicate how a task is done, who is responsible for ensuring that it is done, who actually performs it, be approved and disseminated within the organization and used in training.

4 STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES II

PURPOSE OF SOP RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT RESPONSIBLE POSITION DECISION TO USE SOP SAFETY AND SECURITY OPERATIONAL TASKS SOP TRAINING If you are using this material in a training session, ask the participants to review the SOP format and then brainstorm a list of activities or actions that could benefit from new or revised SOPS. If you are conducting a CP process now, do the same activity describe above, then refer the participants to annex 4 of the Contingency Panning Guide and assign groups to draft the SOP(s) identified in the brainstorming session.
