Our school is involved in the project of self-advocacy of persons with intellectual disabilities.
Our school teachers are educated in the field of Human Rights Conventions and well informed with the international documents regulating the area

As a result of students' Parliament work in the school, students are introduced to the concept of human rights, children’s rights and the rights of persons with disabilities. Students have been taught self-advocacy skills in order to be prepared for life after school, become equal citizens and participate actively in social life.

The aim of the project is the expansion of the network of self-advocates in our country and a tendency to increase it in other Balkan countries. Continuation of the project, implemented during the summer, has been training for monitoring of human rights for people with intellectual disabilities. It aims to establish the level of achievement or violation of human rights of people with disabilities.

The training for the use of tool for assessing the achievement of human rights has been realized. Our next goal is the applications of the methodology for monitoring implementation degree of persons with disabilities. Respecting the principle of "Nothing about us without us", persons with disabilities, who have been trained for conducting interviews, are engaged with the research process and data collection from persons with disabilities about their life quality.

The project includes seven cities and the same number of associations or schools. The project participants are persons with disabilities older than fifteen. Information about life, personal experience and discrimination or respect for human rights, we can directly get through structured interviews from persons with disabilities.

The following report (project is still ongoing) will be aimed at obtaining information on the degree of realization of human rights of persons with disabilities, providing evidence through personal experience to highlight the change in legislation, policies and programs to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Serbia.
