SWAC: Benefits of 6 Week Blocks
Modified timelines (scheduling extra shifts for coop during off times) Individualized programming that meets student need: Students are able to take the course they need, without having to be in a high school environment for only one or two credits Creation of learning community that more closely models a college environment: students are working on the same course as their peers, providing them the opportunity to seek support from both the teacher and fellow students.

LDSB SWAC Student Voice: Encouraging Achievement and Growth "I nearly had no reading life before this class, I had voluntarily read one book, it wasn't a thick book. Every book that I have read this semester has given me something to be proud of. The fact that I have read five books is astonishing to me." "In grade 9 I loved to read, I spent a lot of my free time reading. My life took a turn and got pretty hard and reading was no longer important me as I lost all motivation to do anything. Coming to SWAC I was able to find that motivation again, I've read three books in six weeks which is the best I've done in two years.”

Student Voice: Encouraging Achievement and Growth
"SWAC is a great opportunity for any high school student planning on attending post secondary because it's the perfect amount of exposure. SWAC has really helped me because I'm going to college in the fall and this experience has eased some of my anxieties and made me more comfortable in a college setting. Going to college is a huge step and the prospect has always been intimidating to me but this program has made it feel much less intimidating and made me look forward to the experience rather than dreading and worrying about it."
