4 Health and Exercise Science (HES)
HES is an internationally renowned department and is extremely popular at CSU 1481 undergraduate majors 36 graduate majors High demands on student technology, most of which are supported by CHHS Charges for Technology HES is housed primarily in the Moby B-Wing, which continues to be overfilled

5

6 New HES Teaching Facility
HES recently finished work on a new building to the north of the Moby B-Wing Building was largely funded by HES, with support from the UFFAB, Provost, College, and as of last year, gracious support from the UTFAB (more on this later) The building was finished in time to be used for classes as of the fall 2015 semester

7 New HES Teaching Facility
The building consists solely of two academic spaces: One departmental teaching lab, which seats around 30 students One general assignment (GA) classroom, which seats over 100 students Both spaces are designed as active learning spaces, creating a transformative learning environment The GA classroom includes collaboration enhancing technology This technology was supported by the UTFAB last year to the tune of ~$30,000 The remainder of the instructional technology in the building was purchased by the department (approx. $70,000

8 New HES Teaching Facility

9 The Problem The GA classroom was utilized for the first time by faculty and students (approx. 800 students per week) in the fall 2015 semester, and some issues with the original A/V design were identified Specifically, A/V visibility when the classroom is full has been a recurring issue for students, impacting the overall learning experience Other issues have been identified by the department as well, which are being addressed separately HES has some funding available to help solve the visibility problem, but not enough to fund 100%

10 The Proposal Cost-share additional instructional/collaborative technology in the GA classroom in the new HES Teaching Facility This includes two new 65” screens, mounted strategically to increase visibility for about half of the classroom, as well as all necessary reprogramming/power/data/collaboration technology The cost to do this has been estimated to be $19,136 by CSU Facilities

11 The Proposal, Continued
If approved, the college would cost-share the new classroom technology install at 50% Funding would come from a variety of sources internal to the college Proposed impact to the University Technology Fee: $9,568 Project would be scheduled according to Facilities’ availability, likely during the spring/summer months of 2016
