1 SWEET TEA, PLEASE

2 GA STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE
SPS6. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to explain the properties of solutions. a. Develop and use models to explain the properties (solute/solvent, conductivity, and concentration) of solutions. b. Plan and carry out investigations to determine how temperature, surface area, and agitation affect the rate solutes dissolve in a specific solvent. c. Analyze and interpret data from a solubility curve to determine the effect of temperature on solubility.

3 PROBLEM You are a server in a very popular local restaurant. The restaurant manager was concerned about the quantity of unconsumed sweet iced tea that was thrown away each day. He declared that they would ONLY serve unsweetened iced tea. A significant number of customers are complaining that they want sweet iced tea to be served once again. What can you do to step up as a leader of the servers and develop a solution that satisfies both the manager and your sweet tea drinking customers?

4 CONSTRAINTS You know the restaurant has an excessive amount of sugar cubes (3 years of supply) in storage that need to be used before any other sugar may be purchased. You know your customers would love to have their iced tea sweetened “table side” by the server.

5 solution Design tests to determine the best method(s) for sweetening the iced tea (based on your reading & research) Implement your designed tests & analyze the results Determine the best method for table side implementation of your idea Present your idea(s) via Power Point to the restaurant manager during the next staff meeting

6 Essentials for a successful presentation
Power Point should include: Your claim Your evidence: includes tests results, graph showing comparative results Your reasoning behind how your results support your claim; ideas for table side presentation and how that is beneficial No more than 5 slides
