1. Year Level 3/4G - 2015 Term 4 Overview
Religious Education
Students will develop their understanding of God’s relationship with people as individuals and as a community. We will be investigating ‘Super Heroes’ in our lives! We will engage with stories from the Old Testament and learn about Moses and Esther (Super Heroes from the past). Students will learn to make connections between scripture and living a moral life.
Parents can help by reading the Story of Moses and Esther from the Bible to their children and by talking about how we live a moral life in today’s world.
English
Through Poetry we will :
identify and use descriptive language , focusing on adjectives and adverbs
Identify and create figurative language : alliterations and onomatopoeia
look for similes and metaphors and use them in sentences
read , listen to and create many different styles of poems : cinquain , haiku , shape
understand that writing poetry involves planning , drafting and editing
Year 3 Grammar focus on:
Sentences; nouns ,verbs , pronouns , prepositions and adjectives ; punctuation – apostrophes, commas , quotation marks
Year 4 Grammar focus on:
Sentences ; conjunctions , prepositions , phrases , clauses ; antonyms and synonyms
Punctuation- apostrophes, commas , quotation marks
Spelling – Words Their Way weekly lists catering to student needs.
Novel Study – The One And Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate
Mathematics
Concepts to be covered in Term 3 include:
Year 3
addition involving hundreds, subtraction with trading, The Calendar, More Counting Change, rounding to nearest 5c, grams, millilitres/litres
Year 4
Place value to hundredths , decimals, numbers to ,fractions , division facts , factors and multiples , timetables , time , measuring length and volume , angles , graphing data
Thursday Rotations – Problem-solving Maths

2. Science
‘Heating Up’ – physical science – experiments relating to movement of heat.
History
Change to our Local Area – we look at the changes over time to the Lutwyche Road area with the building of the Northern Busway
Important places/people in the history of our local area (Wooloowin)
The Arts
Drama – as a part of poetry and RE units.
Drama circle – A Fairy Tale.
Visual arts integrated across curriculum areas.
Technologies
Navigating my way around laptops, including word-processing skills
Tux typing program
Ipad for maths practice apps
Homework Expectations
Words Their Way spelling activities –information in the front of homework books..

Oral presentations need to be practiced – Favourite Poem: week 4.
Free reading 20 minutes each night.
Year 3
Home Reading recorded in yellow diary (checked and signed by parent and handed in Fridays) – PLEASE NOTE: students will take home 5 home readers until they reach Level 29/30. It is not compulsory to read each one however all Home Readers must be returned on Library Day (unread readers can be reborrowed).
