One-Point Perspective
Turn your paper horizontally and write your name and class period along the bottom edge. One-Point Perspective BOXES
2
Perspective Vocabulary
HORIZON LINE: In 'real life', the horizon is where the land and sky meet. In art it's your eye level; an imaginary line to which objects recede.
3
Draw a Horizon Line across the center of your page.
4
Perspective Vocabulary
The VANISHING POINT is the spot on the horizon line to which the objects appear to recede toward.
5
Draw a Vanishing Point in the center of your Horizon Line.
6
Draw one rectangle above the vanishing point and one below.
7
Perspective Vocabulary
ORTHOGONAL LINES are lines that move back in space toward the Vanishing Point.
8
Draw ORTHOGONAL LINES from the corners of your rectangles to the Vanishing Point.
DRAW LIGHTLY!
9
TRANSVERSAL LINES form the nearest and furthest edges of a rectangle as it recedes from view.
10
Now draw the TRANSVERSAL LINES to form the nearest and furthest edges of each of your rectangles.
11
That’s why I said DRAW LIGHTLY!
Now erase the rest of the Orthogonal lines that you don’t need. That’s why I said DRAW LIGHTLY!
12
Now draw 2 more rectangles as shown below.
13
This is the same as before, draw ORTHOGONAL LINES from the corners of your rectangles to the Vanishing Point.
14
This is the same as before, draw the ORTHOGONAL LINES from the corners of each rectangle to the Vanishing Point.
15
Now draw the TRANSVERSAL LINES to form the nearest and furthest edges of each of your rectangles.
DRAW LIGHTLY!
16
Now erase the rest of the Orthogonal lines that you don’t need.
17
Now erase the rest of the Orthogonal lines that you don’t need.
On objects higher up – you see more underneath. The closer you get to the horizon line, the less of the bottom you see. The closer you get to the horizon line, the less of the top you see. On objects lower down – you see more on top.
24
The further the object is from
the vanishing point, the longer the size of its side.
25
The closer the object is to the vanishing point, the shorter the size of its side.
26
The closer the object is to the vanishing point, the shorter the size of its side.
27
The further the object is from
the vanishing point, the longer the size of its side.
28
Now erase the extra orthogonal lines.
29
And shade the darker side of each box.

Two-Point Perspective Boxes
31
Two-Point Perspective Boxes
Draw a Horizon Line across the center of your page and place a Vanishing Point on either end.
32
Draw a vertical line above the horizon line.
33
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point. DRAW LIGHTLY SO YOU CAN ERASE!
34
Next draw vertical lines to end each side of your box.
35
Erase the remaining orthogonal lines.
36
Now draw orthogonal lines from each bottom corner to the vanishing point on the opposite side of the page.
37
Erase the remainder of each orthogonal line.
38
Now do the same thing to make a box below the horizon line.
Draw a vertical line below the horizon line.
39
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point. DRAW LIGHTLY SO YOU CAN ERASE!
40
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point. DRAW LIGHTLY SO YOU CAN ERASE!
41
Draw vertical lines to show where each side ends.
42
Erase the remainder of each orthogonal line..
43
Now draw orthogonal lines from each bottom corner to the vanishing point on the opposite side of the page.
44
Erase the remainder of each orthogonal line.
45
Now draw a vertical line that crosses through the horizon line on the left side of your page.
46
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point
Connect the top and bottom ends of that line to each vanishing point. DRAW LIGHTLY SO YOU CAN ERASE!
47
Draw vertical lines to show where each side ends.
48
Erase the remainder of each orthogonal line.
49
Notice that the side closer to the vanishing point is smaller.
50
Now do the same thing on the right side of your paper.
55
Draw vertical lines to show where each side ends.
Remember that the side closer to the vanishing point is smaller.
56
Erase the remainder of each orthogonal lines.
57
Shade each box as shown below.
