What are all organisms made of? Are they all the same?
Cells What are all organisms made of? Are they all the same?
2
All organisms are made up of CELLS
The cell is the smallest unit of living material. Cells have major structures within them that allows them to live. Many organism are made of more than one cell.
3
There are two types of cells
Plant Cells Animal Cells What do you notice? How are these cells, viewed under a microscope, different?
4
Focused Vocabulary While there are many “parts” to both plant and animal cells, we will focus on the following: Cell membrane: the soft, flexible outside covering of a cell that controls what comes in and out of each cell Cytoplasm: the gel-like fluid that fills most of a cell. The other organelles are found in the cytoplasm. Nucleus: A small structure that controls everything the cell needs Vacuole(s): the storage space of the cell (they hold water and nutrients that the cell needs, as well as waste until the cell can get rid of it) Mitochondria: where the energy for a cell is made
5
FYI Organelles are simply the other structures within the cell that help it function. You will learn more about various organelles in sixth grade.

and mitochondria below.
