3 Statements When writing a statement sentence, you need to draw a line over the sentence. You don’t need a facial expression with a Statement. Examples: _________ ______________ I HAVE CAR I NEED GO WORK ________________ I HAVE HOMEWORK __________ ________ HE TEACHER I STUDENT

4 NMS -Anything extra that’s not on your hands -you need to draw a line and write NMS over the NMS word. You need to add the correct facial expression when you sign the sentence. Examples: __NMS________ ____NMS____ I LOVE-IT CANDY I DON’T-KNOW ___NMS_______ _____NMS__ HE LIKE FOOTBALL SHE EXCITED 5. When do you write NMS over a sentence? 6. How do you gross a sentence when it’s a NMS?

5 Q-QUESTIONS For q-questions, you need to draw a line above the question and write a Q at the beginning and end of the line. Your eyebrows will be up while you are asking the question. Examples: Q__________Q Q___________Q YOU HAVE CAR SHE LIKE MATH Q________________Q WANT GO MOVIE YOU

6 WH-Q For WH-Questions, you need to draw a line over the question and write WH-Q at the beginning and at the end of the line. Your eyebrows need to be knitted. Examples: WHQ__________WHQ WHQ_______WHQ HIS SHIRT HOW MUCH YOU GO GAME WHY WHQ______WHQ WHQ____WHQ HE GO WORK WHEN HE DO-DO

7 WHO WHO can be placed at the beginning and at the end of a sentence or just at the end. WHO can NEVER go just at the beginning. Examples: WHQ_______________________WHQ LAST-WEEK WHO HELP-YOU MOVE YOU WHO WHQ______WHQ WHQ____WHQ MAN THERE WHO WHO SHE WHO

8 TOPIC When the main focus of your sentence is first, you need to draw a line over it and write a T. Usually Time or a Noun is the topic. Then you need to separate the comment with another line and a C on top. Your eyebrows need to be up for the topic. Examples: ___T___ ___C__ ____t____ ____c____ MY CAR GREEN LAST-WEEK I GO MOVIE __T_ ______C_________ BLUE MY FAVORITE COLOR

9 RH-Q When you answer your question. You need to draw a line over the WH word and write RHQ over it. Your eyebrows need to be up for the WH-Word. Example: _RHQ_ I GO STORE WHY I NEED MILK MOVIE START WHEN TIME-2

10 I, YOU, HE, SHE, and IT You can write the pronoun at the beginning, end, or both. When its put at the end its called a closing signal. Example: ___________ ___________ HAVE DOG HE I HAVE DOG I ____________ _________________ SHE HAVE DOG YOU NEED GO CLASS.

11 TIME As a basic rule, Time goes first. Example: ____T_____ _____C_____ NEXT-WEEK I GO AUSTIN ___________________ YESTERDAY I GO GAME ________________ TOMORROW I WORK

12 Shift It is used to replace and, or and but. You need to draw a line over the sentence and write (shift) between the information you are breaking up. Example: _____________________ HE NEED BOOK (shift) PEN ____________________________ TODAY (shift) TOMORROW I WORK.

13 List and Order First write down what you are talking about then write (HS) Number. 1st ____ 2nd _____ 3rd _______ Example: _____________ I HAVE 3 CLASS. _____ _________________________ (HS) 3 1ST MATH 2ND PE 3RD SCIENCE

14 Fingerspell To show that the word is fingerspelled, you need to write one of the follow in front of the word #, (FS), or L-E-T-T-E-R. Example: ______NMS______ #MARY LIKE MATH _____t___ ____c_____ (FS) BREE GO SCHOOL ____t_____ _____c_______ K-E-N-Z-I-E WATCH GAME

15 OLD When talking about age, you need to write the sign OLD then the age. Be careful some are blended! 1-9, 13, 14, 15 Example: _______ ___t__ __c___ HE OLD-3. MY CAT OLD-13 _________ SHE OLD Write an example sentence for OLD in ASL Gloss.

16 Finish We use the sign finish to mean after something. Example: _____t_______ __c_____ SCHOOL FINISH I GO HOME WHQ_________WHQ MOVIE FINISH WHEN
