Preparation In 2008 we had the largest number of Olympic A qualifiers. One of the critical factors that supported this success was that SSA was being funded by Telkom and we had sufficient funds to send a large number of athletes to compete on a regular basis at a high international level. Presently the only competitions where all the athletes come to compete, are SA Junior Nationals and SA Senior Nationals. Our strategy is to provide high level competitions locally.
18
Preparation Grand Prix series – To get our athletes race fit prior to Senior Nationals. Top Province competition in July – 2 athletes per event, giving those athletes who cannot afford to travel overseas a top competition when our Senior team is racing internationally. SA Junior short course – To provide our 10 – 15 year athletes with a National competition at the end of macro cycle May to August, which will encourage our junior athletes to train more regularly in winter and get used to racing end of July / August when all major international competitions are held. Work with schools to establish a competition program that will bridge school swimming with SSA swimming i.e events are Olympic events and top school athletes are then invited to participate in SSA events. Introduction of National Age Group Program where throughout the country every province will host a competition with the same event being swum at the same day in each province.
