Confronting Masculinities Limitations
The scene of a barber shop is a recreation of Pepón’s first haircut in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He was crying and terrified when he arrived. He was scared of the clippers that the barber used. But, to contradict the crying and terrifying event, he uses masculine objects like barber chairs, car seats, sports paraphernalia, etc.
5
Gender Limitations and Stereotypes
This work uses the background story of Pepón’s first haircut to show the difference in emotion of men and females. Once Pepón realized that men don’t cry, in most religions and ethnicities men are the stronger gender. On the spot Pepón had grown into a man and followed all stereotypes of a man.
