6 Sacrifice God instituted Israel’s sacrificial system.
The priest would ‘mediate’ between the people and God. God would set apart people for this specific role of priest.

7 Two Ironic Facts About Jesus the Great High Priest
Jesus was not referred to as a priest during his earthly ministry.

8 Two Ironic Facts About Jesus the Great High Priest
Jesus was not referred to as a priest during his earthly ministry. Jesus was not from the tribe of Levi which means he could not have served in the temple as a priest.

9 OT Priesthood & The Priesthood of Emmanuel
OT priests were set apart through their human lineage (Aaron) but the priesthood of Emmanuel was set apart through his divine lineage. “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” 35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God (Luke 1:34-35)

10 14 Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. 16 For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he helps the offspring of Abraham.

11 17 Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. 18 For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. Hebrews 2:14-18

12 OT Priesthood & The Priesthood of Emmanuel
OT priests were consecrated for priesthood to the Lord through the anointing of oil but Emmanuel was consecrated for priesthood through the anointing of the Spirit of God.

13 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The OT priests could never provide complete atonement for sin, only Emmanuel the great high priest could provide an all-sufficient sacrifice for the atonement of sin.

14 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. 2 Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? 3 But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. (Hebrews 10:1-4)

15 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The OT priests could never provide complete atonement for sin, only Emmanuel the great high priest could provide an all-sufficient sacrifice for the atonement of sin.

16 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The OT priests required continual sacrifices, only Emmanuel the great high priest could provide a blood sacrifice to end all sacrifices forever.

17 And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. Hebrews 10:11-14

18 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The OT priests required continual sacrifices, only Emmanuel the great high priest could provide a blood sacrifice to end all sacrifices forever.

19 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The nation of Israel had to go through a priest in order to come to God and only through Emmanuel the great high priest can humanity come to God.

20 How Emmanuel Transformed the Priesthood
The nation of Israel had to go through a priest in order to come to God and only through Emmanuel the great high priest can humanity come to God. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all… 1 Timothy 2: 5-6

21 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith… Hebrews 10:19-22

22 How Should YOU Respond to Emmanuel the Great High Priest?
Draw near to God with a true heart in full assurance of faith!
