8. Key to Success: Geospatial Standards Policy
To benefit from open standards, user organizations must:
Agree & commit to use standards in their IT programs
Establish clear policy positions supporting standards
Employ procurement language that requires vendors to provide standards-based solutions
The user community understands the value of OGC standards, and they are increasingly requiring / preferring OGC and complementary ISO standards in their policies. By including standards in core institutional / governmental policy, organizations reinforce the significant investment by industry in a common set of standards for geospatial information sharing.
Spatial Data Infrastructures around the globe are meeting mission goals in large part due to the power of open standards to provide the necessary level of interoperability for information sharing and collaboration.

When apps implement standards, “citizen science” creates better data and better metadata. Enhancing citizen scientists’ real value enhances their love of science.

20. Standards should be driven by innovation and achieved through collaboration
The Standards of organisations such as the OGC belong to all
