What is a career bridge expo?
The Career Bridge Expo is a vehicle that enables nearly 800 Ware County 5th and 8th grade students to understand the connection between the education they are currently earning and the jobs that they may someday hold. Warren Career Expo Video.xspf

Where do you start if you want to hold your own expo?

Determine date/location
Obtain necessary permissions (local BOE, facilities, transportation, school principals, CTAE director) Create student, teacher and speaker surveys Brainstorm list of speakers/presenters Contact speakers Visit local clubs, chamber of commerce, run announcement in the local media Formal letters of invitation (Save the Date cards used after the first year) Phone calls Face-to-Face visits Create a speaker confirmation list Reserve tables, chairs, extension cords Callahan

Contact local businesses to request refreshments for speakers.
Create a map of the location marked with zones/assign specific speakers to specific zones/tables on map. Create or request signage (Welcome, names of speakers/companies they represent/zone #s). Meet with teachers to review expectations for students and staff. If several schools are attending at the same time, you may want to designate a specific color of shirt to each school (All students from Wacona will wear a blue shirt). Decide on a signal to move groups from one zone to the next. Callahan

What does the Data show? Business Participants were given a 10 item (Likert Scale) survey. The responses yielded the following: 100% of business presenters reported that the expo was beneficial All presenters found the facilities well maintained and recommended future participation. 94% of the presenters reported that students were prepared and that the Expo staff was very helpful. Of those surveyed, 89% reported that the expectations were clearly stated and they were satisfied with their expo experience. 78% reported they were able to connect with students and 66% indicated that students traveled through the zones at about the right speed. 33% of the responses indicated that students moved through the expo too quickly and that students should move through the zones in smaller groups and remain in the zones for longer periods of time.
