Layup 1 - LU16-1 - Results Using 2014 process. Shrink tape cure.
Significant circumferential wrinkling. Long axial wrinkling Impossible release from mandrel. Had to be destroyed to retrieve tooling Possible solution: use vacuum bagging technique.
8
Layup 2 - LU16-2 - Results Altered adhesive length to not overlap
Changed mold release agent and added internal release film layer Used vacuum bagging. Released smoothly from layup tooling, no destruction. Still significant wrinkling, although axial and not spanning the length Veining indicates bagging problem ∴ Less excess bagging & use Al caul plate.
9
What’s Next? Consult with industry with advisors.
LU16-3 using Al caul plate to distribute pressure from vacuum. (Happening NOW!) Retrieve fin frames and nose cone mandrel from MSci. Find resource for affordable adhesive film.
