1 Are you being duped?

2 The church in Antioch Acts 11:19-26 Had a strong beginning
The word was being preached to the Jews And then to the Hellenists Greek speaking Jews Were taught by the Apostles for a whole year. First to be called Christians

3 IN COMES FALSE DOCTRINE
Acts 15:1-2 “And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, ‘Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

4 IN COMES FALSE DOCTRINE
Acts 15:1-2 “And certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, ‘Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.” Word of this travels to Paul and Barnabas Acts 15:2 “Therefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.”

5 So what did they do? Acts 15:2-4 Discussed it between themselves
Discussed it with the apostles and elders Reported all the things God did through them

6 BUT THAT WASN’T ENOUGH

7 SOME STILL HELD TO THE FALSE DOCTRINE
Acts 15:5 “But some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, ‘It is necessary to circumcise them, and to and to command them to keep the law of Moses.”

8 COURSE OF ACTION The apostles and elders came together to consider the matter (vs. 6) Where is the authority? Col 3:17 says “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,” What does that mean? Acts 4:7 “By what power or by what name have you done this?” What are they asking?

9 Establishing Authority

10 Establishing Authority
Command/Direct Statement Approved Example Necessary Inference

11 John 13:34-35 Vs. 34 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you love one another.” Vs. 35 “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” Command/Direct Statement Approved Example Necessary Inference

12 Used by the Apostles (Acts 15)
Command/Direct Statement (vs.13-22) Approved Example (vs.12) Necessary Inference (vs. 7-11)

13 Conclusion was reached!
After they applied authority they knew God’s Truth on the matter, They then proclaimed the results. (v.22-32)

14 Application

15 Contradictions of Doctrines
Man’s Doctrines Bible Doctrines ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC SINNERS PRAYER FAITH ONLY YOU CAN LOSE YOUR SALVATION NON-INSTRUMENTAL BAPTISM NOT BY FAITH ONLY

16 Acts 8:5-13 Simon had been deceiving the people
They thought he was the “great power of God” Simon heard the word, believed and was baptized. Is Simon saved at this point?

17 Yes! Even some of the teachers of this “once saved always saved” doctrine teach he was a true believer. “Writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Luke says that the Samaritans believed and were baptized (v. 12), that Simon "also believed" and was baptized (v. 13), and that the Ethiopian Eunuch believed and was baptized (v ). It would be arbitrary to deny Luke's affirmation of Simon's salvation while accepting his affirmation of the others' salvation.” --

18 Simon’s Fall He coveted the power of the apostles (vs. 18)
Peter tells him he is going to perish because of this (vs. 20) Peter tell him he has no part or portion (vs. 21) What did Peter mean by Perish? Spiritual death What was he told to do in order that he would not perish? Repent and pray to God.

19 Repent and Pray Why would he be told he would perish if it were not possible? He wasn’t “truly saved”? If he wasn’t “truly saved”, then why didn’t Peter tell him to repent and be baptized, like in Acts 2:38? The bible tell us to be baptized to be saved in Mark 16:16; 1 Pet 3:21; and many more.

20 Simons Reaction Then Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me.” (Acts 8:24) Would a Feigned or insincere Believer react this way? 4 types of soil – no soil, no deep soil, soil with weeds, good soil. His reaction would more logically have placed him in the soil with weeds which are the cares of this world.

21 FALL FROM GRACE? Eph 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,” “You have fallen from grace” Gal 5:1-4 2 Pet 2:20-22

22 2 Pet 2:18-22 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage. 20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”

23 Conclusion It is easy to be deceived, so we must be on guard
We must have bible authority! We see how to establish authority. You can fall from grace which results in loss of salvation if not corrected.
