Some Financial Facts An 8:1 student-faculty ratio, an average class size of 17 students, and curriculum that provides individualized attention and a plethora of courses, activities and services means that for Bryn Mawr to remain a top tier liberal arts college, this education is not cheap. ~$77,000: the actual cost of educating a student at Bryn Mawr ~$64,000: the sticker price charged for under graduate tuition, room & board & fees ~$32,000: the average amount an undergraduate student pays. In the red are the subsidy students receive which comes from philanthropy. Every student, even those who are full pay, benefit from philanthropic support.

Some Financial Facts The average student pays almost half the cost of their Bryn Mawr education. Philanthropy subsidizes much of the remainder. 41 % of the College’s annual revenues come from philanthropy, primarily from the Bryn Mawr Fund and support from the endowment.

Some Financial Facts Bryn Mawr Fund gifts are spent immediately to areas where the college needs it most. The Bryn Mawr Fund allows the College the flexibility to use this support where it’s needed most throughout the year. In addition to big priorities such as financial aid and academic programming, The Bryn Mawr Fund is vital to the overall student experience.

Some Financial Facts 7.9% per year = The average annual increase in financial aid support Bryn Mawr has provided students over the past seven years. The College is really doing it’s best to make this education affordable for our students. Bryn Mawr’s financial aid support increases on average by almost 8% each year. the sticker price for tuition, room and board has not increased as much on an annual basis. In fact, that average annual increase is only 1.8% (over that same time period which is taken over the last seven years) For context, I showed this slide last year and this average has since grown. Last year we reported this annual average as 7.4%.

The Campaign Expect The Bryn Mawr Fund!
To encourage more people to connect with Bryn Mawr. To include all donors in the success of Campaign. To provide immediate support to top priorities: Students, Faculty, Campus. Every day. Every year. Campaign Priorities: Support for our Students: Financial Aid and Opportunities such as internships, innovative learning and the overall student experience Investing in our Faculty: Support their research and scholarship they need to excel in their particular fields of expertise, pay them competitively and retain the best and most renown. Investing in our Campus: making sure our facilities match the ambitions of today’s students and faculty, and preserve our iconic and historically significant buildings.  Growing The Bryn Mawr Fund The Bryn Mawr Fund is a line in the College’s budget that helps us to meet the cost of student’s education. It needs to be a reliable and growing source of annual revenue in order to continue to provide strong financial stability to the College every year. It raises between $5.4 and $6 million a year and without this support, the College would need an additional $120 million in the endowment to cover the dollars raised by The Bryn Mawr Fund. For most donors The Bryn Mawr Fund is the way in which they will support the campaign. And for many, giving to The Bryn Mawr Fund is their first philanthropic experience with the College. Even those who are now major donors to the College, started by giving smaller gifts to the Bryn Mawr Fund. It is really important that we ensure their experience as a donor is a positive one. The Bryn Mawr Fund is also a priority in this campaign because it acts to strengthen donors’ connection to the College, builds loyalty, enables them to feel part of a special community within our community, an outward expression of their pride in Bryn Mawr.

The Campaign Goals & Progress
Dollar Goal: Exceed $250 Million Raised To Date: Over $155 Million Bryn Mawr Fund: Sustain a $6 million annual fund Build more loyal donors Engage our community: Give, Boast, Attend! The Bryn Mawr Fund is also an important priority because it accounts for a significant percentage of the Campaign total. As of May 2016 The Bryn Mawr Fund has raised $33.4 Million in this Campaign, representing approximately 21% of the dollars raised to date.

Fiscal Year in Review Dollars Increased to a record $6.3 million Slade and Archways Members Grew Participation Dropped Last year The Bryn Mawr Fund had a record year in raising dollars: The Campaign went public More people increased their giving, particularly in the Slade Society. More people are doing Multi-Year Pledges More Reunion classes who did challenges (6 in their reunion year and 1 leading up to their reunion year) The Archways Society grew in members by 3% (from 3,954 to 4,073). In addition, Archways members now represent 65% of our donors. Slade Members increased slightly as well as the average size Slade level gift

Participation – Ugh! Donors who give smaller sized gifts.
The Year After Reunion The Youngest Graduating Class Volunteers! Only thing we did not see increase is Giving Participation. Alumnae participation continued to slide from 35% to 34% (4910) (all funds). And from 34% to 33% who support the BMF (4790) Primarily from our donors who give the smaller gifts. Participation Challenges: Each year our alumnae base grows by about 1%-2%, (14,187 in FY16, to 14,342 in FY17, to 14,582 now in FY18), This year, to increase back up to 35% we need 5019 alumnae donors. Which is about 109 more than we had last year. For The Bryn Mawr Fund to continue to be a sustainable and strong source of income, we need to continue to grow in our number of donors. We can’t just rely on our more generous donors, we need many loyal donors of all levels of support in order meet the cost of providing this kind of unparalleled education to students. These are some groups where we would like to see participation improve. Donors who give smaller amounts: 92% of our donors give smaller gift and collectively those gifts add up to over $1.4 million for the College. However, most of these donors tend to give one year and not the next. Not only is this group collectively giving a lot but they also make up most of our Alumnae Giving Participation Rate, which is important to our rankings and our ability to secure and our ability to attract prospective students. Post Reunion Classes: We still see a drop in the post reunion classes. Pledge – It – Forward is helping but we need to do more to reach the larger group of this cohort. Youngest Class: We typically see a big turn out for the Senior Class Gift but then the next year it can drop as much as 40 percentage points. - Volunteers: Out of 1,047 alumnae volunteers who served in FY17, 286 (27%) did not give FY17, in that group, 30 have never given to BMC donors = 2% in our alumnae giving participation rate. Alumnae participation is important to our rankings, our ability to secure grants, and attract prospective students.

The Power of You! Just to be clear, I was inspired by our class letter (1984) and have been planning to do this since the amazing Defy Expectations event in London. I don't have loads to give, but I want to do what I can. Anassa kata! Alumna I have two tasks I would like all fundraising volunteers to do this fall. give or pledge your support early in the fall, before your work begins. reach out to your other class officers and let them know about the impact that their giving participation will have on Bryn Mawr.

The Power of You! This is a measure of online gifts made in FY17. When someone makes a gift online they have the option of filling out a Reason Code. As you can see here, of the specific Reasons for making a gift, Volunteer was listed second. However it can be argued that an could also be and appeal from a volunteer. There’s a little bit a grey area but this is a definite measure of how influential you are to your classmates willingness to give, and how important your reminders to give are. This represents 1488 gifts totaling $519,758 = $153,988 Volunteer = $95,371 DMA = $99,251 Phonathon = 164 $21,227 BMC Event = 107 $68,559 Facebook = 84 $11,273 Staff = 38 $69,945 Honor Roll = 5 $140

The Power of You! Cynthia Graham and Sheila Cunningham reminded me personally of the reunion. Family issues made my attendance impossible, but their kind contact inspired gift to the College Alumna These two women were a class president and a class editor. This is not to let you off the hook from contacting classmates, but when your talking to your fellow class officers (next week) let them know that their work makes a positive difference too.

This Year’s Goals Dollars = $5.4 to $6 million Alumnae Participation = 35% or 5,020 donors Alumnae Volunteer Giving = 100% This fiscal year (June 1, 2017 to May 31, 2018) The Bryn Mawr Fund must raise $5.4 million to support the College and students. That is what is budgeted in the operating budget. We WANT to raise $6 million to stay consistent with our success last year. 2018 Slade Challenge : To launch a single-year Slade challenge aimed at growing our base of members with the goal of reaching 800 or more Slade members by the end of FY2018. Stay tuned this fall for more details.

The Power of You! Specifically, it was two Facebook posts by one alum from my class. She was very persuasive! 2007 Alumna In addition to personal outreach you can do more mass outreach in the form of , facebook posts etc.

The Power of You! I planned to give this year, as I usually do, and was reminded NOT to be late with my gift by our class financial officer -- who always sends the nicest reminders & thank you notes Alumna You do not need to worry about pestering them. They like hearing from you and they appreciate your reminders.

Thank you for your Help! You've got Linda Friedrich to thank for reminding me to donate before May 31st! Thanks to Beth Strausser, my dear friend who continues to remind me of what Bryn Mawr has given us. Thanks Lisa for the reminder call! Shout out to Diana Tive and Lauren Buckheit for reminding the class of 2015 about how much we love BMC! These are just some more testimonials of how positive your classmates are to your outreach with them
