4 Era of Good Feelings? Election of 1816: 5th president
Was easily elected because the Federalists were so weak Nationalism: Strong sense of nationalism – nation very united and pulling together. Comes right after the War of Why did that War lead to a greater sense of nationalism even if no side really won? Election of 1816: James Monroe was elected President. Election of 1820: Monroe was re-elected. Ran unopposed and got all but 4 electoral votes Great Cabinet: John Quincy Adams, William H. Crawford, John C. Calhoun Era of Good Feelings label comes from a single but important Good Will tour of New England in 1817
