RULE-1 IF I or X is written one after the other twice or thrice,we get the number by adding them Ex. 1) II=1+1=2 2) XX=10+10=20

RULE-2 If a numeral is written to the right of a bigger numeral, then its value is added to the number on the left Ex. 1) VIII=5+3=8 2)XXV= =25

RULE-3 If the numeral I is written to the left of V or X , the value of I is subtracted from the bigger number. I can be written to the left of bigger numeral only once Ex. IV=5-1=4 IX=10-1=9

RULE-4 TO write numbers greater than 10, first the groups of tens are written using X followed by the proper numerals for the units Ex.21= =XXI 24= =XXIV
