1 2015 Iditarod By Sarah A.

2 Introduction Hi there. Welcome to Alaska! Do you want to know about the Iditarod race? The Iditarod race is actually a dog sled race. It all started when a dreadful illness accrued to Alaska. It caused lots of kids to get very ill and they could not find the medicine to help the people get better. The roads were blocked and no one and nothing and no one no could get threw the snow. Then they had a great plan. Back then Alaska was known for mushing dogs. The town had a solution to this problem. They would race their dogs to get the medicine.

3 Musher Ally Zirkle was born in New Hampshire She is 45 years old.
Her bib number is 32. Started racing about 20years ago.

4 The dogs are called Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes.
The dogs were booties The dogs are called Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. They start with 16 dogs.

5 Routes and Checkpoints
The routes are different this year because there wasn’t enough snow so they took the southern route. They started in Fairbanks this year. Ended in Nome, Alaska. The race is approximately 1049 miles long.

6 Awards PenAir Sprint Alaska is presented to the first musher to reach McGrath. GCI Dorothy Halfway Award is Presented to the first musher to reach the halfway checkpoint witch this year was Iditarod. Wells Fargo Bank Alaska Gold Coast Award is presented to the first musher to reach the “Gold coast” Community of Unalakleet. The Red Lantern Award goes to the last musher to reach the Gold coast.
