Man Rays was born into a Russian/ Jewish family in Philadelphia. His mother was a seamstress and his father was a Taylor. Man Ray was relocated to Brooklyn, New york and spent most of his childhood there. He had to keep his Family background a secret because of fear of anti-Semitism.

In High school Man Ray got into freehand drawing, and other techniques of architecture and, Engineering. He excelled in his art class. He graduated in In 1912 he enrolled in Ferrer School and developed into a serious artist. Alfred Stieglitz, Another Photographer, introduced Man Ray to Photography.
