1. U. S. COAST GUARD INTERNATIONAL ICE PATROL
Objectives

International Ice Charting Working Group

The International Ice Patrol has enjoyed a long history of international cooperation with Canada--CIS, CCG, Canadian Armed Forces--and have benefited greatly from these relationships.
The IICWG offers an opportunity to greatly expand this international cooperation.
We have already seen tangible benefit from the IICWG--broadcast of products by Germany.

2. Three Primary Goals
Improve & Expand Delivery of International Ice Patrol Products.
Utilize Cooperation/Partnerships to Improve Remote Sensing of Icebergs.
Establish IICWG as Spokesperson and Advocate for ECDIS Ice Data.

3. IIP Product Delivery
The IICWG offers a unique opportunity to monitor, measure, expand & improve the delivery of all International Ice Patrol Products to our customer--the North Atlantic Mariner.
Already seeing success in broadcast of IIP products by German Federal Maritime & Hydrographic Agency.
New avenues for products to reach mariners and monitor quality.
Learn from what others are doing.
We request mariners to forward copies of fax charts--we know German broadcasts are being used.

4. Improve Iceberg Detection
Leverage the cooperation & partnerships of the IICWG to ensure iceberg detection & tracking are included and/or furthered in remote sensing efforts.
Canada/U.S. cooperation a model--need to build on and expand these successes.
Keeps IIP in the loop.
Allows us a forum to ensure icebergs are included.
Shared information.
Goes beyond iceberg detection--improved current and weather information so important to accuracy of BAPS.

5. Ice Information & ECDIS
Establish the IICWG as the “subject mater expert” advising the WMO, IMO and IHO on formatting, standards and delivery of ice data to mariners for use with Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).
The mariner is our customer---providing our products in a format useable to ECDIS is the future.
As the Coast Guard representative to the IICWG, this issue important across a broad spectrum of missions and geographical areas.

6. Summary Improve/Expand IIP Product Delivery.
The U. S. Coast Guard International Ice Patrol has great hope that the Cooperation & Partnerships fostered by the International Ice Charting Working Group will:
Improve/Expand IIP Product Delivery.
Improve the Detection of North Atlantic Icebergs by Satellite or other Remote Sensors.
Facilitate Future Delivery of IIP Products in an ECDIS Compatible Format.
