How do we overcome global inequalities and poverty?
2
What is FairTrade? Explain how it works. Who benefits from Fairtrade? How can producers make themselves even more efficient?
3
Some people do not think that fairtrade is a good idea.
“The principle’s there, but the thing is it costs a lot more and people who aren’t as well off as other people can’t really afford to pay 50p or £1.20 for chocolate and coffee when they can buy it cheaper.” Sonia, 15, Nottingham “I’m not saying it’s right - these big brand companies that have sweatshops and pay people peanuts make things affordable for people that aren’t rich.” Alicia, 15, Stockport “For farmers in the third world, fair trade cuts out the middle man and they get more money for their produce and their work. And so their families don’t live in so much poverty. But it is expensive and there’s still one in four people in Britain living in poverty.” Mike, 14, Glastonbury
