Your child will be completing three book projects this year (one per trimester). Details on each book report will be sent home when they are assigned. Otter Reading is a schoolwide independent reading program that encourages students to log the titles of books they read at home. Student reading logs will be saved for the entire time they are at Robert Down and will then be given to them when they leave. I will send home an Otter Reading log with your child this week. DO check their planner and teal folder for homework assignments and notes from school. DO NOT do their homework for them, however, you may review procedures needed to answer questions.

13 Teacher as Coach…

14 Homework continued

15 Classroom supplies and donations
Thank you so much for sending your child in with school supplies! If you wish to donate supplies to share with the class this year, they are VERY much appreciated! We always welcome “soft” Kleenex, Clorox wipes, #2 pencils, glue sticks, post it notes and red, blue or black pens.

16 Walk with P.R.I.D.E Walk with P.R.I.D.E on Saturday Sept. 19, is a fundraiser for PG PRIDE, a foundation that supports our school district. All money donated to Room 11 will be spent on students in Room 11. Thank you in advance for your support! Our goal is to raise money for 5 Audio book listening centers which will include: iPod, 6 copies of book titles, audiobook and headphones.

17 Birthday Celebrations
While each student is recognized on his or her special day, we will save the “birthday treats” for scheduled dates throughout the school year. In accordance with our District Wellness Policy, we will serve healthy options such as fruit, muffins, bagels, fruit bars and yogurt. This way if any student has allergies or dietary restrictions, parents don’t have to worry about unexpected treats throughout the year. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding! Just a reminder, birthday invitations for private parties or thank you notes may not be distributed at school, even if there is one for every student.

18 Two Sculptors Thank you for coming!
I dreamed I saw a studio And watched two sculptors there. The clay they used was a child’s mind And they fashioned it with care. One was a teacher – the tools she used Were books, music, and art. The other; a parent, worked with a guiding hand, And a gentle, loving heart. Day after day, the teacher toiled with a touch That was careful, deft, and sure, While the parent labored by his side And polished and smoothed it o’er. And when at last, their task was done, They were proud of what they had wrought. For the things they had molded into the child Could neither be sold or bought. And each agreed they would have failed If either had worked alone. For behind the parent stood the school And behind the teacher, the home. Thank you for coming! If you have any further questions, please us!
