PRESENTATION ON ROOFS AND ROOF COVERING BY MD.MOHAIMENUL ISLAM(126) SALMAN SAKIB(127)

INTRODUCTION A roof may be defined as the uppermost part of the building, provided as a structural covering, to protect the building from weather (ie, from rain, sun, wind etc.) The roof coverings may be A.C sheets, G.I sheets, wooden single, slates, tiles, slates or slab itself.
4
REQUIREMENTS OF A ROOF • It should have adequate strength and stability to carry the super-imposed dead and live loads. •It should effectively protect the building against rain, sun, wind, etc.and it should be durable against the adverse effects of these agencies. • It should be waterproof and should have efficient drainage arrangements. •It should provide adequate thermal insulation. •It should be fire resistant. •It should provide adequate insulation against sound. Most forms of roof construction provide for majority of buildings an adequate insulation against sound from external sources.

Flat and Pitched roof are two main types among the classification.
Flat roof A roof is designated as flat if it’s slope is less than ten degrees. Slope less than 3:12 or 25 percent. Pitched roof Pitched roof is a roof structure where the roof leans to one side of the house. It is also known as lean-to roof.

Frame Roof Construction Several features of traditional frame roof construction should be considered before designing a roof. The roof framing is designed to support the roof covering materials. Framing must be strong and rigid. Roof framing consists of several distinct structural elements. Rafters The rafter is a structural element of the roof that supports the sheathing. Common rafters are perpendicular to the wall plate and extend from the ridge. There are several other types of rafters used in typical construction. Rafters are often shown on a roof framing plan.
