What is an electric circuit?
2
Electricity is a type of energy in which
small particles (called electrons) move through a device.
Let's see what Louie the Lightning Bug has to say about electricity.
3
There are 3 important parts in an electric circuit.
Output device Conducting material Power source
4
A circuit is a complete path for electric current to flow through.
How can you tell if the circuit is complete?
5
It is important to be able to tell if a circuit is complete
It is important to be able to tell if a circuit is
complete. Electricity cannot flow through an
incomplete circuit. We call a complete circuit "closed." We call an incomplete circuit "open."
6
What is the difference between these two types of circuits?
Series Circuit Parallel Circuit
7
A series circuit is a circuit where the electricity passes through each device in the circuit, one after another in a continuous loop. Series Circuit
9
A parallel circuit is a circuit where the path of electrical current has more than one loop to pass through. The electricity does not have to pass through every device. Parallel Circuit

We use special symbols to represent electric circuits when we are drawing diagrams. Can you match the symbol with the components below? bulb (lamp) switch battery (cell) motor
