1 How to calculate the torque due to the balance stick
And you

2 The steps: 1st, Calculate the mass on side A of the balance stick
2nd,Calculate F on side A (mass on side A of the balance stick X 9.8) 3rd, Center that force on side A - right in the middle of that section 4th , Calculate the torque value on side A (F x dist. to pivot) 5th , Calculate the mass on side B of the balance stick 6th , Calculate F on side B (mass on side B of the balance stick X 9.8) 7th , Center that mass on side B - right in the middle of that section 8th , Calculate the torque value on side B (F x dist. to pivot)

3 1st, Calculate the mass on side A of the balance stick
Example: Length of balance stick = 2 m. Mass of balance stick = 1.4 kg Mass on side A: Use of equivalent ratios m = ? kg 2 m kg Cross multiply: .8 X / 2 = .56 kg of mass of balance stick on side A .8 m = side A 1.2 m = side B

4 2nd,Calculate F on side A (mass on side A of the balance stick X 9.8)
Example: Length of balance stick = 2 m. Mass of balance stick = 1.4 kg Force = mass (in kg) X g = (.56 kg) (9.8) = N of force on side A due to the mass of the balance stick on side A .8 m = side A 1.2 m = side B

5 3rd, Center that force on side A - right in the middle of that section
Example: Length of balance stick = 2 m. Mass of balance stick = 1.4 kg .8 m / 2 = .4 m to center of mass on side A from pivot .8 m = side A 1.2 m = side B .4 m

6 3rd, Center that force on side A - right in the middle of that section
Example: Length of balance stick = 2 m. Mass of balance stick = 1.4 kg Torque A = F X d = (5.488 N) ( .4 m) = Nm of torque from the mass of the balance arm on side A .8 m = side A 1.2 m = side B 2.195 Nm .4 m

7 3rd, Center that force on side A - right in the middle of that section
Example: Length of balance stick = 2 m. Mass of balance stick = 1.4 kg Torque B = F X d = 8.23(N) .6(m) = 4.94 Nm of torque from the mass of the balance arm on side A .8 m 1.2 m .4 m .6 m 2.195 Nm 4.94 Nm
