14 “There is a general difficulty among the public to see housing as an issue that requires greater attention from policymakers, and people struggle to see the connection between housing, equity and inclusive communities” “Our experience and research show that, while our advocates are lifting up policy and programmatic solutions, we are missing the opportunity to change the narrative about why housing matters; what “affordable housing” means; why housing is a shared public concern; and what needs to be done to fix this problem.”

15 BALANCE PEOPLE, PLACE, AND SYSTEMS
KEY RECOMMENDATIONS BALANCE PEOPLE, PLACE, AND SYSTEMS SHARE STORIES OF HOW SYSTEMS AND PUBLIC POLICIES SHAPE THE PROBLEMS PEOPLE EXPERIENCE MAKE STORIES RELATABLE – DEMONSTRATE THE IMPACT ON EVERYONE; COLLECTIVE “BENEFITS”; US – NOT THEM

16 KEY RECOMMENDATIONS VALUES-BASED MESSAGING CONNECT HOUSING TO OTHER ISSUES – HEALTH, LABOR, EDUCATION USE CAUSE AND EFFECT LANGUAGE WHEN SHARING SUCCESS STORIES – LINK TO POLICIES TRY NOT TO TALK ABOUT “AFFORDABLE HOUSING” STRESS IMPORTANCE OF PARTNERSHIP AND NOT RELIANCE ON GOVERNMENT
