2. Requirements
Completed project, ready to be displayed (think art gallery level of finish)
NO SKETCHBOOKS SHOULD BE PART OF THIS. Many of you used sketches from your sketchbook to show what you were working on during the mid-semester presentations. For the final, this is not acceptable as the project unless your plan included using the sketchbook specifically as part of the final (for example, if you were making a comic).
2. Final Artist Statement
As part of your final Genius Hour project, you will need to type and electronically submit an Artist Statement. Use the following guidelines to write 1-2 paragraphs about your project. The more detail the better, so provide as much information as possible to get a good grade. The Artist Statement is worth 20% of your final Genius Hour project grade.
What did you make? (Is it a painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, etc.? Be specific!)
Which materials did you use? (Include the medium, for example paint, but also what you used that medium on, such as canvas, wood, etc.)
Why did you want to make this artwork? Include any personal meaning it might have to you.
How did you make it? What steps did you take?
What challenges did you have? Describe your process through the semester.
3. Presentation of work (all students)
Make sure you discuss each point during your presentation:
What did you make? Why did you want to make this? Be specific—for example, I made a painting of __________ because _____________.
How did you make it? Talk about the process.
Tell the class about at least one challenge you had in making your final artwork.
Ask the class if they have any questions so that they are given an opportunity to ask you about your art. Answer their questions. THIS IS REQUIRED.

4. How I will be grading you
Technical Skill
Project appears completed.
Work is done to the best of student’s abilities.
Work is completed to a level that is acceptable for presentation, such as to a gallery or art show.
All elements included in the final artwork appear intentional.
Artwork shows evidence of artist taking artistic risks, or tried new things.
Creativity
Artwork is the product of an original idea (not one copied from Google, Pinterest, Instagram, Deviant Art, etc., other than for reference).
Creative thinking and problem solving are present in the final pieces.
Composition is arranged in an aesthetically pleasing and/or logical way.
Effort
Uses the following grading scale:
A = 9-10 points: Clearly lots of effort, worked all semester and ideas are highly developed
B = 8 points: Above average effort, minor issues/flaws in the final artwork
C = 7 points: average effort, artwork may be lacking or show unfinished qualities
D = 6 points: artwork shows little effort, may be incomplete and technique is undeveloped
F = 0-5 points: no project submitted at all, or appears to be in early stages. Artwork obviously lacks effort and care.

Has all points listed in the requirements (make sure you have hit on each one before turning in with your final!)
Presentation
Student discusses each point in the requirements (again, there are 5, make sure you mention all of them)

5. Critiques
As part of your final, you must also complete two critiques of your classmates’ work. You may submit these after everyone has presented their finals on your scheduled finals day.
I will provide you with a handout to complete your two critiques on.
Grades for the critiques will be separate from your Genius Hour final score.

6. Finals Week Schedule Monday, December 19th
Clean out day—this is graded. ALL cubbies must be cleaned (sketchbooks and art supplies can stay) in order to get credit.

Wednesday, December 21st
Genius Hour presentations periods 1, 3, and 5
Thursday, December 22nd
